San Diego Comic-Con is just getting started, but Paramount has already released the first trailer for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. This new live-action movie seems to dive deep into D&D lore, if the various easter eggs and hidden references are any indication.

From iconic creatures to familiar magic spells, we’ve broken down all the key Easter eggs to find in this new sequence. Check out the slideshow below or scroll down for more.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves – Spells, Creatures, and Other D&D Easter Eggs

The creatures and kingdoms of Dungeons & Dragons

This dragon breathes what appears to be black acid as opposed to fire; this could indicate that it is an extremely powerful and chaotic ancient black dragon, which uses an acid breath attack.

It looks like the Underdark, an underground kingdom.

A quick shot of a Mimic, an infamous D&D creature that disguises itself as a treasure chest.

Two famous D&D monsters in one fell swoop! A Displacement Beast and a Gelatinous Cube can be seen here.

Although it is difficult to distinguish the exact color of this dragon, due to the volcanic setting and its fire breath, it is probably a red dragon, known to be fierce tyrants.

Dungeons & Dragons Spells

The mage appears to be using some sort of protection spell – possibly Force Barrier – to shield oncoming arrows.

Looks like someone used the Heat Metal spell on Michelle Rodriguez’s axe.

It looks like Sophia Lillis’ character could use the Dimension Door spell here.

The mage casts some sort of lightning spell, which could be Witch Bolt, based on the form.

From the sounds heard here, the mage could be using Magic Missile.

The other mage teleports via a spell – could it be Misty Step?

Sophia Lillis’ Tiefling Character

Most of the characters appear to be human, but based on her horns, Sophia Lillis’ character is likely a Tiefling.

It shows the character of Lillis transforming from a horse into a much more powerful beast, the owl. However, it’s worth noting that the Wild Shape ability – the class trait that allows druids to shapeshift into animals – wouldn’t allow a transformation into an Owlbear, as it’s technically classified as a monstrosity. It could mean that the filmmakers are playing with the rules of combat a bit, or that a spellcaster just threw Polymorph at him.

The trailer was removed shortly after fans got their first look at its main characters in costume. Watch for everything else announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 as the show continues.
