Hawkeye Missed Easter Eggs

Since Kate Bishop’s origin story involves the loss of her father and the start of her cult hero Clint Barton during the Battle of New York in 2012, she’s essentially a big callback to “The Avengers.” and the event that ended MCU Phase 1. However, her story also involves a beautiful Easter Egg starring the movie that started said phase.

The first time Kate demonstrates her considerable archery skills in the show ends in disaster, when a bow and arrow prank goes awry and destroys her campus spire. A flashing sign and You Miss reveals that the doomed structure is called Stane Tower, which is a reference to the MCU’s very first villain: Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges), the second commander of Stark Industries in “Iron Man.” Seemingly affable and trustworthy, Stane turns out to be a villain in his own right who is behind the kidnapping of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) … and who ends up acquiring his own motorized suit, with destructive results.

“Iron Man,” of course, is the movie that started the whole MCU affair, and the fact that the last superhero to join the universe semi-accidentally destroys a glamorous part of his first superhero’s legacy. villainous is a magnificent continuity detail that immediately establishes Kate as a believable part of this world.
