“Paying attention to every detail, she even scrutinized the Easter Bunny,” Grisham wrote of the then first lady, a former model.
“As the costumed guy was about to go out to the balcony to greet the children, a frown crossed the first lady’s face,” Grisham’s book says.
“I don’t like what he’s wearing,” Trump said, looking at a plaid waistcoat the life-size hare wore.
“She felt like it was cheesy and distracting,” Grisham said.
“So and there, just minutes before he hopped onto the White House lawn, Melania Trump made the Easter Bunny gang,” according to Grisham.

News organizations at the time noted the absence of the Easter Bunny vest, worn in some previous appearances at the White House Spring Party.
While the plaid number may not have been a hit with Trump, it made a comeback last year for the Biden administration’s first Easter Egg Roll.
In 2020, the Easter Bunny could be seen wearing an unchecked brown vest and face mask, amid the coronavirus pandemic.
