Sonic the Hedgehog 2 – Trailer Breakdown & Easter Egg Analysis
Snowboarding however Sonic did, as we’ll see later in the trailer, albeit briefly at the start of a level in Sonic the hedgehog 3.
The emerald of chaos
Robotnik states that, “since I left, I have discovered the source of the ultimate power.”
When we last saw Robotnik, he was on the ‘mushroom planet’ which looked like Mushroom Hill Zone in Sonic & knuckles. It is not clear if the emerald seen in the trailer is intended to be an ordinary Chaos Emerald (which, if the player collects all 7 of them, can be energized), a Super Emerald (as named in Sonic & knuckles and fundamentally improved versions of the other Chaos Emeralds) or the Master Emerald, who controls the other Chaos Emeralds. Since the one we see in the trailer is green, is such a large size, and Robotnik claims he has the ultimate power, we’re going to assume it’s the Master Emerald. There is no doubt that Robotnik will use it to try and subdue Sonic.
We also get a glimpse later in the trailer of what appears to be the Emerald Master in some sort of ancient temple. Could this be a live version of the Hidden Palace area of Sonic & knuckles? In this game, the Hidden Palace area contained the Master Emerald, so it’s very likely!
When Tails appeared in the post-credits scene for the first film, it sparked applause from fans around the world (especially the eight-year-olds sitting in front of me.) In this brief appearance, he was voiced by the current voice. of Tails in games. and TV shows, Colleen O’Shaughnessey. Fans were hoping she would stick around for the sequel and not be recast with a big celebrity and luckily her voice got recycled and is featured in the trailer. She even manages to shout “SONIC!” Is what Tails would scream when he died in Sound adventure 2.
Interestingly, it looks like Tails and Sonic have never met before (maybe Tails has heard of him), but it looks like they’ll become friends quickly.
