If there is one thing Cobra Kai does really well it’s mine its own story for new story ideas. (If there’s two things he does well, it’s mine his own story for new story ideas and William Zabka acting like a lovable meathead.) From the show’s earliest episodes, he used the characters and ideas of the original. The Karate Kid franchise to create a truly compelling saga about legacy, history, morality, and kicking in the face. The show’s creators have a knack for turning even the silliest aspects of old movies – and those movies were really sometimes silly – in the motivation for genuinely moving and thrilling drama.

This tradition continues very well in Cobra Kai Season 5, which expands the feud between mega-villain Terry Silver (originally from The Karate Kid Part III) and the eternal enemies of karate Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence. This final season features the return of some surprising characters from Karate Kid, as well as a host of subtle references to events and dialogue from the original film trilogy. With season 5 now available on Netflix, we’ve collected 15 of its cleverest Easter eggs – but there are more, so you can always send us more on social media.
